Labs
There are two primary workflows for lab ordering. The workflow used will be determined by the clinical protocol.
- Marketplace / Direct to Consumer Labs:
- Tests that can typically be ordered without a prior appointment and the patient or partner knows exactly what tests the patient needs. These tests may be for STIs, wellness panels, genetic tests, home test kits, or labs to diagnose an acute condition or approve bridge refills for meds to manage chronic conditions.
- SteadyMD will manage the exact tests and laboratories are available for ordering. Retrieve these from the program to know what is available for ordering.
- **Steps for Integration: **Partners must send all patient intake information necessary for the evaluation and indicate what labs the patient is requesting to be ordered by creating a lab order linked to the Episode of Care. This lab order should list the specific lab tests and the laboratory they would like to go to. Lastly, partners must create a consult to initiate the lab order evaluation.
- Partners will be notified if the clinician approves and orders the test.
- Labs ordered during a visit:
- The patient is seeking care for a weight loss, primary care, or urgent care program and the clinician determines it is appropriate to order tests as part of the treatment plan.
- Tests ordered will generally follow the defined clinical protocol. Depending on a patient's needs, clinicians may use their discretion to order tests not included in the standard protocol.
- **Steps for Integration: **Partners will be notified if a lab order is placed by a clinician during a visit via an SNS notification that an async_lab_order consult has been received.
- All lab programs
- Once Partners receive the Lab Approved SNS notification they should retrieve the lab order PDF from the episode of care and direct the patient to complete their labs at the indicated laboratory.
- Once we receive lab results, you will receive an lab results ready SNS notification. Partner must then retrieve the lab results PDF from the episode of care and present it to the patient.
- SteadyMD will initiate critical result workflows automatically.
- Partners should direct patients to the appropriate type of visit based on their results.
Lab ordering must be specifically added to the clinical protocol for a program. Please review the lab account dependencies outlined in the Partner Services Portal and work with your SteadyMD Account Manager to expand to this type of care.
